This past weekend marked a historic occasion as Minhaj-ul-Quran International (MQI) Norway hosted its first-ever Founding Members Day 2025 — a deeply inspiring event paying tribute to the pioneers who laid the foundation for the organization’s presence in Norway.
The event was part of MQI’s global annual celebrations, but this was the first time it was held in Norway, honoring founding members and dedicated volunteers who played a vital role in establishing MQI’s mission in the country.
The evening commenced with a beautiful recitation of the Holy Quran by Abdullah Khan, board member of Minhaj Youth Oslo, followed by a heartfelt nasheed by Qari Ansar Ali Qadri. Imam Muhammad Iqbal Fani then delivered an insightful speech reflecting on the spiritual vision of MQI and its journey in Norway.
One of the most touching moments of the evening was a series of interviews conducted by Qasir Mahmood, who engaged several founding members in a reflective dialogue. These powerful testimonies offered a glimpse into the early challenges and triumphs of the movement. Among those interviewed were: Muhammad Afzal Ansari (Patron MQI Norway), Pervaiz Nisar (Chairperson House of Representatives), Ch Mushtaq Ahmad (Chairman Rabita Comittee), Faiz Alam (Lifemembership Secretary), Zafar Sial, Raja Akram, Mian Muhammad Aslam, and Ejaz Ahmed Warraich.
Awais Ejaz emphasized that one of the key reasons today’s youth are actively leading the mission of Minhaj-ul-Quran International in Norway is the tireless dedication of the senior members, who not only built mosques but also created nurturing spaces for the younger generation to grow under their guidance. "We will always remain deeply grateful for their contributions — a debt we can never truly repay," he remarked.
In a moving tribute, MQI Norway’s Chairman Awais Ejaz Ahmed and Secretary General Hassan Bashir presented honorary certificates to over 50 individuals who played an instrumental role in the early development of MQI Norway. Families of deceased members were also present to receive certificates on behalf of their loved ones — a touching gesture that recognized their enduring legacy and contribution.
The event concluded with a grand dinner, featuring a guest of honor table and a delicious meal shared by all attendees. The atmosphere was filled with joy, connection, and a strong sense of community spirit.
The evening also served as a powerful reminder of the journey ahead. It was heartening to see the next generation now taking the lead in running MQI Norway, committed to continuing the legacy with fresh energy, new projects, and renewed purpose.
Looking ahead, MQI Norway plans to release a special social media series highlighting the stories of those honored at the event — offering further inspiration and recognition for their invaluable contributions.
